I’m slowly learning my way around the Saint Petersburg Metro. Last night I had to pick up a ticket for a fireworks cruise I’m doing on Victory Day (Friday) night, and I had to negotiate my way through the Metro to a particular station. I’ll admit that it was only 2 stops from where I have been staying, but it included a change in lines – something not to be taken lightly during peak hour!
Interestingly, the escalators to the platforms on my metro line are the longest escalators I’ve ever been on. Some of them take a full 3 minutes to ascend/descend! They aren’t going slow, they’re just massive.
Today we tried to visit a Naval museum nearby, but only managed to see the submarine outside, as well as a reconstruction of “The Standard” – a vessel originally built to defend Saint Petersburg a couple of hundred years ago. The naval museum was closed as it is Tuesday (go figure!)
